The Caribou boys and Fort Kent girls were able to secure team victories Thursday afternoon in a five-kilometer classical race held at the Nordic Heritage Center in Presque Isle. Daniel Streinz of Katahdin won the boys’ event in 15:21.5. The Vikings, however, had four skiers among the top 12 to capture first place.
Riley McDuffie was third in 18 minutes and 18.9 seconds. Keith Draper took fourth in 18:22.6, Michael Marquis seventh in 18:41.3 and Tyler Strid 12th in 19:55.9.
Thirty-four skiers participated in the event. Caribou’s score of 21 toppped second-place Madawaska (34), as well as Fort Kent (37) and Presque Isle (50).
Hannah Streinz of Katahdin took the girls’ race with a time of 19:09.2.
The Vikings’ Sarah Doak came in second in 20:42.3, while Lauren Chapman was eighth in 25:11.5 and Eileen Patton ninth in 25:12.1.
A total of 29 female skiers competed.
Caribou posted 26 points to fall to the Warriors by only four. Presque Isle had 51 and Fort Fairfield 54.
