EASTON NEWS

Joshua Peers, an eighth grade student at Easton Jr/SrHigh School, won the school-level competition of the National Geographic Bee on Jan. 9 and a chance at a $25,000 scholarship.

The school-level bee, at which students answered oral questions on geography, was the first round in the annual National Geographic Bee. The event is sponsored by the National Geographic Society. Thousands of schools around the United States and in the five U.S. territories participate in this academic competition.
The school winners, including Joshua, will now take a written test; up to 100 of the top scorers in each state will be eligible to compete in their state bee in Augusta in April. The top 100 in the state qualify, and the state winner will advance to the National Geographic Bee in May in Washington, D.C.
Congratulations, Josh, and good luck in the competition ahead!

Kiwanis update

The Easton Kiwanis Club would like to thank everyone for their support for the calendar project. They also apologize for the late delivery — between the storms and transportation issues, their calendars spent a few weeks hanging out on loading docks and traveling around the East Coast!
They have done their best to find everyone that ordered a calendar but if you have not received yours, please contact Mike or Loris Allen at 488-6111. The group needs your support for their projects which in turn aids in meeting the needs of children and adults in our community!
Please consider becoming a member of this service club. They meet on the first and third Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m. at the Odd Fellows Hall — and would love to have you join.

Winter Ball

The 2014 Winter Ball hosted by 2013 Easton Queens Cassandra Buck and Anna Tompkins is set to be held Jan. 31. Food and drink are included, as well as a live DJ. All proceeds will help sponsor the upcoming 2014 Easton Community Fund-raising Pageant. For any additional questions, please Call Tina at 768-0798.

Happy Day meeting

The Easton Senior Happy Days Club will meet at the Manor on Thursday, Jan. 20, at 11:30 a.m. for dinner and meeting. Installation of the new officers will take place at this meeting.
