HOULTON – Louena Merrithew, 87, died Dec. 30, 2013, at a local healthcare facility. She was born Jan. 13, 1926, in Houlton, the daughter of Louis and Mildred (Huggard) Merrithew.
Louena attended Ricker College and devoted her working years to the insurance business. She was always admired for her classy looks and lady-like appearance. Louena was an avid reader and enjoyed her library of classics, many leather bound and belonging to her grandfather, Thomas Huggard. She could recite poetry on demand, loved nature and animals, especially her cats. She lovingly gave years of her life as a caregiver for her grandmother, Irene Huggard, and her mother, Mildred Tingley.
Louena will be missed by those who knew and loved her and for her spontaneous wit.
