Thrift store closed temporarily

HOULTON, Maine — The Salvation Army Thrift Store on Water Street is temporarily closed. According to Envoy Damon Hayward of the Houlton Branch of The Salvation Army, the building is not structurally sound and unsafe for people to be inside.    The building was inspected by the town’s code enforcement officer who noticed significant damage to the building.
“It’s just not safe,” Hayward said.
The 11,000-square foot facility needs significant improvements or an alternative site may be needed to relocate the thrift store. Donations should not be dropped off at the Water Street location for the time being. For more information, call 532-2322.
