TAMC announces first baby of 2014

PRESQUE ISLE,  Maine — The first baby of the New Year born at TAMC was welcomed into the world Friday, Jan. 3 at 2:55 p.m. Carly Jacqueline Cole weighed in at 8 pounds, 12 ounces and measured 21 inches long.
Cole is the third child born to Ashley and Jonathan Cole of Mapleton. Her siblings include 4-year-old big brother Levi, and 3-year-old big sister Addison.
In honor of the special delivery, the Coles were presented with a basket full of gifts for the newborn and family members donated by Machias Savings Bank. In addition, a keepsake item and a special baby blanket was presented by the staff in the TAMC Women and Children’s unit, along with a hand-made quilt donated by the Crown of Maine Quilters, which was made by quilter Kate Albert of Madawaska.
“We are so thankful for Carly’s health and that she finally came,” said Ashley. “We are just so thrilled and touched by the wonderful gifts and all of the excitement. Her siblings have been so excited and are just thrilled they have a baby sister!”
TAMC’s first baby of 2014 was supposed to be closer to a Christmas miracle. Carly was originally due to arrive in the world Dec. 26.
“Our first and second child both came early, so we were thinking we’d have Carly as an early Christmas present. Then, when Christmas came and went, we thought for certain we’d have her by the New Year,” said Jonathan. “I guess she had her own timetable planned.”
Carly was delivered by TAMC Certified Nurse Midwife Nancy Escobar, MSN, CNM. Assisting in the delivery were Deirdre Clark, RN, labor and delivery nurse, and Leslie Wheaton, RN, nursery nurse.
For Escobar and the entire TAMC Women and Children’s team, welcoming TAMC’s first baby of 2014 is a great way to start a new year that comes on the heels of a very exciting 2013 for the team. The Women and Children’s unit just learned that two recent independent surveys showed that maternity care at the Presque Isle hospital ranks among the highest in Maine.
“We have an excellent team here at TAMC and this reminds us all why we just love doing what we do. We not only have the pleasure of welcoming new lives into the world, but in many cases we see families get their start and watch them grow,” said Escobar. “Our team has provided pre-natal care and delivered all three of the Cole babies. So, as their extended family, we share in the joy of this new addition to our extended family.”
Carly’s maternal grandparents are Jacqueline and Taylor Putnam Sr. of Mapleton. Her paternal grandparents are Oland and Patricia Cole of Winn.
