SACS boys stop East Grand

High school boys basketball teams continue their season even with games played through the Christmas school break.
The following are recaps for games played through Saturday.    Last Wednesday, the Southern Aroostook Warriors overpowered visiting East Grand, 78-41, behind freshmen Jackson Mather and Nolan Altvater. Mather had a 17 point-effort and Altvater tossed in 14. Trent Cullinan chipped in with 10 and Everett Bivighouse added seven for the well-balanced Warriors.
Logan Crone netted 10 points for the Vikings, while Kenny Winiarski chipped in with nine.
The Van Buren Crusaders cruised by GHCA last Thursday, 85-26, at the University of Maine Presque Isle.
Jacob Rioux (40 points) and Andre Rossignol (22 points) combined for 37 first-half points, as the Crusaders staked a 41-12 halftime lead.
Aaron Holmes led GHCA with 13 points, while Ethan Jacques finished with six and Dana Brown, five.
It was a close game in Stacyville last Thursday, with the Cougars coming out with a 70-66 victory over visiting Schenck.
Katahdin turned a 28-25 halftime deficit into a 50-44 third-quarter lead en route to the win. Wyatt Morse tossed in 23 points, including five 3-pointers, while T.J. Young tallied 14 of his 19 in the third-quarter comeback. Gavin Russell scored 16 points and hauled in eight rebounds.
For Schenck, Justin Thompson knocked down 23 points, including four 3-pointers.
