After reeling off seven consecutive victories to begin the season, the University of Maine at Presque Isle women’s basketball team tasted defeat for the first time Sunday, losing to Apprentice School of Newport News, Va., 75-57, in a game played at Wieden Gymnasium.
Owl point guard Darby Toth tossed in 15 points, including the team’s only two three-point field goals, in the loss. Olivia McNally and Amanda Hotham both scored 12 for UMPI.
Earlier in the week, the Owls picked up home victories over UM-Fort Kent, 55-42, and UM-Machias, 75-46. The team next plays Jan. 2 against Eastern Nazarene in Boston.
