Thanks to a donation from two of its patrons, the Caribou Public Library now has a full collection of the Heartland novel series for young readers.
Deborah Sidell and her granddaughter, Emily Gendreau, of New Sweden recently donated 19 books from the equine-themed series, completing the library’s 25-book collection.
Library Director Diane DuBois explained the two also brought in a collection of horse figurines and other items to help “set the mood.”
“Both Deb and Emily are avid readers and horse lovers, and have shared a sample of their horse paraphernalia for the collection display at the library,” said DuBois.
In her biography written for the collection, Gendreau notes she is the fourth generation of women in her family to own horses. “I don’t ride for show. I ride for fun,” she stated.
The book series, written by Lauren Brooke, is aimed at readers ages 8-12 and revolves around a 15-year-old girl who lives on a Virginia horse farm named Heartland, where she and her family heal horses. Throughout the stories, the main character finds healing herself and faces some tough decisions that could determine Heartland’s fate.
Area residents are invited to stop by the library to see the display and check out the books. The collection will be on display until February.
The library’s special display case is used to share special collections interested patrons may have, DuBois explained.
