Managers from Marden’s in Presque Isle recently visited the maternal/child services nursing staff at Cary Medical Center, bringing with them 80 quilts and blankets that were hand sewn by several of the store’s customers, or “blanketeers,” as part of Project Linus. Through this program, blankets are collected locally and distributed to children in hospitals, shelters, social service agencies or anywhere that a child might be in need of a big hug. This year, the local Marden’s has collected about 250 handmade blankets and quilts to donate locally. Doug Clifford, at far left, manager of the Presque Isle Marden’s, and Darlene Ouellette, assistant store manager and quilter, at center, presented the gifts to Cary staff, from left, Karen Woodall, RN, nurse manager, Cary emergency department/inpatient units; Susan Adams, RN, emergency department; and Susan Miller, LPN, Shelly Deprey, RN, and Jennifer Plante, RN and primary charge nurse, all of the maternal/child unit.
