WASHBURN NEWS

The Washburn Memorial Library is extending its “Food for Fines” project. We’re looking for those overdue items that you have tucked away because your fines would be so outrageous. Bring them back with some non-perishable food for the food bank and your fines will be waived.    The library is also ready for you to get into the holiday spirit with most all of our holiday books, movies and audio books on display. Whether you need something traditional or brand new, come in to get yourself ready to celebrate.
New at the library include 30-plus large print books, Philippa Gregory’s “The White Queen,” the latest Stephanie Plum novel, the newest Sue Grafton novel, Karen Kingsbury’s “Fifteen Minutes,” Clive Cussler novels, and the movies “The Blind Side” and “The Help.”
Library hours are Monday from 1-7 p.m., and Tuesday through Friday from 11 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

Quilt raffle

The Stitchin’ an’ a Givin’ quilting group in Washburn creates and donates over 100 memory quilts each year to hospice patients through the county. The group is now out of funds to purchase the materials needed to make these wonderful quilts. To raise some funds they are raffling off a quilt. The quilt is on display at the bank in Washburn where the Katahdin employees are also helping to sell tickets. Most of the quilting group are also selling tickets. The quilt will be raffled just before Christmas, and this beautiful quilt would make somebody a very nice Christmas gift.
