Freme, Dorothy M., 97, November 28, 2013.  Interment to be held in Calvary Cemetery, NY in the spring.  Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr Funeral Home, SC.


 

    Dorothy M. Freme, 97, of North Charleston, SC, entered into eternal rest Thursday, November 28, 2013, at Trident Medical Center. Her last residence was at The Bridge of Charleston, in North Charleston, SC. Dorothy was born June 20, 1916, in Limestone, Maine, the youngest child of the late Saheed Joseph Meelan and the late Sadie Simon Meelan.
    Her early education was in Limestone and later in Binghamton, NY. She then worked as a beautician with three of her sisters. She moved to Caribou, Maine in 1942, and was employed at the Presque Isle Air Force Base. She married Sam Freme in 1946 and together they operated the “Squeeze-in Restaurant” and later opened Freme’s Jewelry, Sport Center and Travel Agency.
    After many years in business, Sam and Dorothy retired to Greenville, SC. She had been a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and the Caribou Country Club, both in Caribou, Maine as well as the Green Valley Country Club and St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greenville, SC.
    Dorothy was predeceased by her husband; two brothers, Nelson and Mitchell; six sisters, Alice (Joe Gabriel, Alma (Joe Sleeper), Mary (Paul Wynne), Dee (Jim Troy), Geneva (Herbert Wakem) and Arlene (Martin Sullivan). Dorothy is survived by her seventeen loving godchildren, many loving nieces, nephews and many friends.
    Dorothy and Sam were cremated. They will be buried together in the Meelan family plot at Calvary Cemetery in Johnson City, NY following a Roman Catholic committal service at the Cemetery in the Spring of 2014.
