The parish center was the scene for the Daughters of Isabella annual Christmas party on Dec. 3 at 6 p.m. A delicious supper catered by Frederick’s South Side was served to over 40 people in attendance. Father Emile Dube gave the blessing. A short business meeting was held after supper, led by Regent Mary Ellen Field.
A 50/50 raffle was won by guest, Shirley Anderson, in the amount of $61. It is a tradition that at the Christmas party the recipient of the raffle gets the whole amount. The birthday gift was won by Dolores D. Martin and happy birthday was sung to the December birthday ladies present. Guests in attendance were Mona St. James and Shirley Anderson.
Roll call of officers showed all officers present.
The Visitation of the Sick committee reported cards were sent to Tammy Nadeau, Jan Corriveau, Jeanine Belanger, Sharon Ellis and Doris Martin. Cards will also be sent to Norma Shaw and Rossmond Morin.
Four layettes were given out last month to Cary Medical Center. A layette was shown to all present. Each layette has a value of around $100. At Christmas time members brings gifts for the layettes and these were displayed. Included in each layette is a sweater set, PJ’s, pampers, onesies, receiving blankets, homemade baby quilts, homemade baby blankets, bottles, rattles, etc.
Priscilla Foley, a 40-week club member, received $50 in the November drawing.
Dolores Martin reported on the fundraiser of discount cards, which is on-going. If you would like a discount card, contact any member of the Daughters of Isabella. These are good every day of the year at the 18 vendors displayed on the card.
A letter was read from our state regent, Jacqueline Dostie Smith. She wished everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. She reported that all installations of the local circles is now complete. The off-year workshop will be held in Madison this year. The theme for the workshop is “Daughters, beacons of light from the past in the present and looking to the future.” This day will be held the third weekend in May. She also reported on the International Convention to be held in Canada, with bus transportation being looked into. More will be coming on these two items.
A newsletter was passed around.
A gift was presented to Father Dube and also one was given to him for our pastor, Father LaBrie. A gift was also presented to our Regent, Mary Ellen Field by the Circle.
Father Dube then shared a message with all present.
Regent Mary Ellen thanked all for coming, for bringing gifts for the layettes and canned goods for the parish Christmas baskets to be given out next week. She explained about the card holders at each setting. Tip of the evening – place credit cards in this envelope for protection when using same.
Next month’s committee for Happy New Year 2014 on Jan. 7 will be Omerine Cyr, Josephine St. Peter, Brenda Corriveau and Jan Corriveau.
She then turned the meeting over to the committee for this evening. The room was beautifully decorated with prizes at every place setting. An exchange of gifts was done. Many door prizes were given out. A sing-a-long of many carols, led by Father Dube, was enjoyed by all.
Serving on this December committee, setting up, decorating, cleaning up after the party and getting door prizes, etc. were Debbie Chabre, Madeline Guerrette, Sharon Ellis, Rena LaGasse, Julie Goodale, Kristina McEwen, Chelsea McEwen and Mary Ellen Field.
