PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The Presque Isle Police Department responded to the Northern Maine Regional Airport last week for the report of a bullet striking and breaking a window.    “On Nov. 18 between 8:40 and 8:45 a.m., a .30 caliber bullet entered an office window at the NMRA. After recovering the spent round and examining the damage, it was determined that the bullet likely came from a hunter’s stray and was not an intentional act against the airport,” said Deputy Chief Laurie Kelly, of the PIPD.
Kelly said the incident was reported to the Maine Warden Service.
“Officers did locate a local (Mapleton) hunter within a mile’s proximity to the airport. The Maine Warden Service is continuing the investigation and will conduct tests on recovered evidence. No firearm charges have been issued at this time, pending the continued investigation,” said Kelly.
According to Kelly, the incident did not disrupt air service.
“The flight had already been delayed by weather. This incident did not further delay any flights, no injuries were incurred and property damage to the NMRA office was documented,” said Kelly.
A window and window shade were reportedly damaged by the projectile.
