With the holiday season comes the sentiment of giving to others. That’s why Houlton Regional Hospital is sponsoring a Giving Tree for the Northern Lighthouse. The Northern Lighthouse, located in Mars Hill, works with families from Smyrna to as far north as Fort Kent.
“We serve roughly 125 families throughout Aroostook County,” said Henry Carpenter, spokesperson for The Northern Lighthouse, whose parents Billy and Debbie Carpenter live locally. “In doing this service we have found that many families are in need of assistance. We try to help them and we rely heavily on community support.”
Carpenter said that his organization works year-round on providing these holiday services.
“We want to be able to give families in need a food box for a Christmas dinner plus a few gifts for their children,” he added.
Northern Lighthouse is a social services agency, which works with special needs children.
The Giving Tree will be at Houlton Regional Hospital. Anyone who would like to help may do so. Please return gifts to the hospital to be picked up on Dec. 17.
“We do this for anyone in need not just the people we serve,” said Carpenter.
