Organizers of Freedom Fest 2014 have planned an informational and volunteer meeting Wednesday, Dec. 4 from 6-8 p.m. at the ITV conference room in Nadeau Hall at the University of Maine at Fort Kent. Those attending will get a sneak peek of the performers headlining this benefit concert to raise funds for a northern Maine veterans museum and community center. Organizers also want to start the process of signing up volunteers to help at the event. Volunteers will be provided concert staff shirts and caps for the event.
The all-day Freedom Fest event will be held Aug. 9, 2014, during the Ployes Festival and the World Acadian Congress, at the Fort Kent municipal airport, and will include a small village of displays from various veterans’ service organizations, vendors and supporters. “American Pie” actor Thomas Ian Nicholas and his band, The Thomas Nicholas Band, have agreed to headline this event in support of northern Maine veterans. Rising stars, Maine’s own The Mallett Brothers Band, have also committed, along with Houlton’s own folk-rock group, Mellow Endeavor. The afternoon will open with the Spirit of Cash – Harold Ford and the Cash Band. Tennessee Haze, Kindred and The Uprooted, all from the St. John Valley, will also grace the stage in support of this worthy cause.
Special appearances are slated by dignitaries including the First Lady of Maine, Mrs. Ann LePage, whose primary cause is the support of Maine’s military, veterans and their families.
Tickets will go on sale Dec. 1, and those purchasing tickets online will have an opportunity to submit a name of a veteran to be included on a wall of honor at the concert venue.
