PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The Presque Isle Middle School Blue Girls soccer team improved their win total by six from last season, finishing 7-4 overall and 4-2 in Aroostook League play, tying with Houlton for top honors. “Having a majority of last year’s players returning made a huge difference in how this season played out,” said coach Monica Bearden. “Last year’s team was very young, with two-thirds of the players being new. They improved a lot through the season, but we only won one game.”
Bearden said the returning players showed great leadership, “and that certainly helped in the team’s success.”
“Any time a coach has a lot of players returning, it is exciting because you know that their skill level will be better and they already know your expectations,” said the coach.
In league play, Presque Isle recorded two victories over the PIMS White Team, including a 1-0 overtime triumph in the finale, while also splitting its matches with Houlton and Caribou.
