EASTON NEWS
by Hillary Hallett
On Tuesday, Nov. 12, the staff and students of the Easton School Department will be honoring local veterans at the annual Veteran’s Day Celebration. Veterans are invited to be our guests for lunch at 12:30 p.m., with the assembly to follow. As part of the ceremony, officials would like to recognize veterans in a PowerPoint presentation. If you have not sent a picture for our previous celebrations, please bring or send a picture to the elementary school office so that we may include you in this presentation. You will need to do this no later than Thursday, Nov. 7.
Also, to help our cooks prepare, we ask that all who plan to attend call the elementary school at 488-7701 to RSVP no later than Friday, Nov. 8, either for lunch and the assembly or just the assembly.
On behalf of the planning committee and the entire Easton School Department, we look forward to honoring our local veterans on the 12th of November.
Youth Day hunt a Success
It was a successful event for Youth Day deer hunt for Joshua Peers (13 years old) and his dad Edward, of Easton, with Joshua shooting his first deer on his first hunt this past Saturday. Joshua and Ed went out for his first hunt and at 7 a.m., using a Winchester model 70 Featherweight in .243, a Leupold3-9 power scope, and 95 grain ballistic tip hand-loads he shot an 11-point, 199-pound buck at over 400 yards. The deer was the first buck checked in at Ben’s new store on Main Street in Presque Isle.
Thanksgiving Dinner
On Thursday, Nov. 14, the Easton School Department will be offering a Thanksgiving meal for Easton resident senior citizens starting at 12:30 p.m. in the elementary school cafeteria. The meal will include turkey, stuffing, gravy, baked potatoes, mashed potato, squash, peas and rolls.
Harvest Party 2013
The annual EPCO Harvest Party at the Easton Elementary has been postponed; as soon as a date becomes final we will pass it along. Admission to the event will be Thanksgiving items to benefit the Easton branch of the Friends Helping Friends Food Pantry. Ideas include stuffing, cranberry sauce, canned pumpkin and fruit, pudding, etc. Please, no glass jars!
EPCO is asking for small toys (Happy Meal size) to use as game prizes. If you have new or gently-used toys to donate, please send them to school with your child to leave them in the front office. There will be a cake walk; if you would like to donate a cake, call the elementary school at 488-7700. They would like to suggest 8-inch cakes (two to a box mix) or cupcakes. Costumes, games and food = fun!
