AUGUSTA, Maine — The Augusta Elks Lodge 964 hosted the State Soccer Shoot-out  at the end of last month and Houlton’s Cameron Callnan won his age division to advance to the New England competition. Callnan won the under 12 boys competition.    Others from Houlton Elks lodge who qualified for the New England competition included: Lainey Henderson, third in girls under 8; Kalie Bither, second in girls under 10; Abigail Worthley, second in girls under 12; Carolyn Mooers, second in girls under 14; Jay Tweedie, third in boys under 8; Sephiroth Maguire, second in boys under 10; and Nolan Porter, second boys under 14.
Regional shoot outs were hosted by individual lodges statewide to not only provide soccer players with a venue to show off their skills but also foster drug awareness which is a key element of the Maine Elks Association.
Each Lodge then sent their top kickers to Augusta to compete in several age categories where the winners will advance to the regional and possibly the National competitions. Regionals will be held in Auburn, Massachusetts on Nov. 8 and 9.
The Maine Elks Association will be providing accommodations for all contestants and their families.
Maine Elks Association Chair, George Jones organized the event in Augusta with a host of volunteers.
