HOULTON – Jack E. Hogan, 87, passed away peacefully October 23 after a summer of various health problems. He was the son of Ivan and Myrtie (Tyrell) Hogan.
Dad devoted his life to his wife and children. He was a big man with an even bigger heart. In his early years, he worked on the family farms in Monticello and Littleton. He later worked in the heating oil business, eventually owning his own company, Hogan Energy. Before retiring, he worked at the county jail as “Deputy Dawg”. He loved fishing and was happiest when his grandchildren were around – they were his biggest joy in life. Dad was a proud member of Masonic Lodge #96 where he helped put on many delicious suppers. He was a great cook.
He is survived by his two daughters, Candace Hogan and her companion, John Kiesow, of Albion, and Sherry Watson and her husband, Allison, of Houlton; grandchildren, Jodi Harris and her husband, Grant, of Austin, TX, and Douglas Anderson and his wife, Mami, of Omaha, NE; his beautiful newborn great-grandson, Kaisei Jack, who was flying to Houlton for the first time this week to fulfill Dad’s dream of holding him; his special nieces, Bonnie Tidd, Luanne Tuttle, Mary Faulkner, and Sally Sutton; special nephews, Mike and Dwight Hogan, and several other loving nieces and nephews. He also had a special place in his heart for his “third daughter,” Patsi Dow of Seminole, FL; Adam Courtemanche of Portland, whom he thought of as a second grandson; and his beloved caretaker, Colleen London. He was predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Alecia (Gentle); his brother, Max; and sisters, Ruth Hall and Phyllis Winquist.
Now that Jack and Alecia have been reunited through the mingling of their ashes, there will be a graveside service to celebrate both of their lives at 12 p.m. on Saturday, November 2 at the Evergreen Cemetery.
