PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The University of Maine at Presque Isle is holding their annual Midnight Madness basketball event Thursday — this year with a Halloween theme. The public is welcome to attend and ring in the 2013-14 UMPI Owls’ basketball season.
Doors at Wieden Gymnasium will open at 6:30 p.m., with the first 100 attendees receiving a free T-shirt. Beginning at 7 p.m., games involving audience members, the introduction of players on both coach Jim Casciano’s men’s basketball team and coach Doug Carter’s women’s basketball teams, intrasquad scrimmages, a men’s dunk contest and a women’s shooting contest are all part of the festivities.
Costume judging will take place at 8 p.m., with winners of the best overall costume and costume showing the best school spirit being given prizes. Door prizes will be drawn at the conclusion of the event.
The UMPI baseball team will host a tailgating party from 5:30-7 p.m., featuring music, food and games.
