PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Healthy Aroostook, a program of Aroostook County Action Program, in collaboration with the Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association, the Maine Farm to School Network, Northern Girl, Maine School Nutrition Association, the Farm to Institution New England, John Merck Fund and the Maine School of Science and Mathematics (MSSM), will present a workshop Thursday, Oct. 24 for anyone interested in helping to get locally grown foods into Aroostook County schools.
The three-hour workshop will begin at 2 p.m. at MSSM in Limestone. The event will include a presentation by Chef Jeff of MSSM on how to successfully incorporate locally grown products into the school cafeteria. Cooking demonstrations, samples of locally grown products and recipes will also be a part of the agenda.
School administrators, food service personnel, local producers and distributors are encouraged to attend, as well as anyone else in the community with an interest in this topic. The event is free of charge and there will be 10 $50 gift cards raffled as door prizes in addition to the afternoon’s sessions and activities.
