CARIBOU — A visit to the hospital can be stressful. Patients have to put their trust in the medical staff in charge of their care and assume that they have real talent in their area of expertise.

On Saturday night, members of the staff of Cary Medical Center got to prove to their patients and the public that they also have a knack for performing something other than medical procedures during Cary’s annual Family Talent Show held at the Caribou Performing Arts Center.
The Cary Auxiliary has been putting on the program since 1995. CEO Kris Doody, RN, and Volunteer Coordinator Betty Walker have been co-hosting the show since its beginning. The twosome are the perfect match, with Doody playing straight man to Walker’s light-hearted antics.
This year’s lineup featured not only Cary employees, but also family members of the staff and hospital volunteers. Annie Charles, 2007’s Aroostook Idol, was a special guest performer, wowing the audience with her incredible voice during two inspirational songs.
In addition to Charles, there were several impressive vocal performances, flawless dance routines and a couple of rocking jam sessions from young alternative-style group Artificial Snow Day and Dr. Claude Doma, who laid down some classic rock tracks on his guitar with friends joining him on drums and bass.
The show ended with a moving rendition of Lee Greenwood’s “Proud to be an American,” performed by Duane Anderson, father of Cary COO Shawn Anderson.
Proceeds from the Cary Family Talent Show go to the Auxiliary to help the group purchase equipment and provide services to the hospital.
