HOULTON, Maine — The Greater Houlton Chamber of Commerce will host a “Candidates Forum” for individuals running for election to the Houlton Town Council on Wednesday, Oct. 23, at 6:30 p.m. in the council chambers.    The forum is a chance for candidates to answer questions, posed by members of the public. There are six candidates for two available seats on the town council. Candidates are incumbent John White Jr., Priscilla Monroe, Wade Hanson, Carl Lord Jr., Jerry Adams and Stan Ginnish.
Mike Jenkins’ name will also appear on the November ballot, but he has since withdrawn from the race. His decision to withdraw was made after the ballots were printed.
According to Cathy O’Leary, town clerk, an official notice of Jenkins’ withdrawal was given to the town Tuesday. She said she has heard Jenkins planned to move outside of the town limits, which would make him ineligible. If Jenkins were to get elected, the council would then have to appoint someone until the next election.
Written questions can be sent to the Chamber office prior to the event by e-mailing director@greaterhoulton.com or by mailing questions to: Greater Houlton Chamber of Commerce, 109 Main Street, Houlton, ME 04730
On the evening of the forum, residents may also call in questions to the town office (532-7111). The forum is open to the public and will be broadcast the local public access television channel.
Editor’s note: The Houlton Pioneer Times will publish candidate profiles on those running for town council in the Oct. 30 edition.
