CARTER, Mary “Mike” O., 82, EAGLE LAKE, September 11, 2013. A committal in her honor will be held at the Estey Cemetery in Easton, on Saturday, October 12, at 12 p.m. with a small reception following the committal.
EAGLE LAKE – Mary “Mike” O. Carter passed away Wednesday, September 11, at Mercy Nursing Home in Eagle Lake. She was 82. Mike was born in Green Lake, NB, to James and Edna (Nevers) Lowrie on May 21, 1932. She was pre-deceased by her husband, Arthur L. Carter; and five brothers, Harold, Pat, James, Earl and John; and three sisters, Blanche, Thelma and Gretchen, all of Canada.
She is survived by a brother, Arthur Lowrie of Toronto, Canada. She is also survived by her loving daughter, Sonja Watson whom she cherished and her husband, Richard Watson of Westfield; her son, Michael L. Carter of Presque Isle. She loved all of her grandchildren dearly, Patrick Patterson and his wife, Sandy Patterson of Easton, and Kasandra Grass and her husband, Todd Grass of Mars Hill; very special great-grandchildren, Amber Hews and her husband, Trevor of Crouseville, Ross Grass of Mars Hill, Matthew Carter and Sara Carter, both of Boston, Mass. Also survived by dear nieces, Susan, Ellen, Cathy and Earline, all of Canada.
She worked at The University of Maine at Presque Isle as the switchboard operator/security for over 20 years where she greeted every student, faculty member and phone call with a smile. She was a member of the Ethics committee at TAMC, Business and Profe-ssional Women of Presque Isle, Honorary sorority member of Yellow Rose and a member of the Red Hatters. Besides her love of her family, she loved to volunteer and help others. She volunteered at AARP on Board as well as driving friends to and from doctor’s appointments and other errands. She loved being involved in politics and volunteered for several years. Her other love was camping and she spent many wonderful years making memories that will last a lifetime with her “camp friends” and grandchildren at Birch Haven in Eagle Lake.
Her favorite saying to her family when visiting her was “I loved you first!” “Well, Mom and Nana, we love you last and for always”.
A committal in Mike’s honor will be held at the Estey Cemetery in Easton, ME, on Saturday, October 12, at 12 p.m. with a small reception in Easton following the committal. In lieu of flowers, please donate to The American Cancer Society or The Central Aroostook Humane Society.
