To the editor:
Property taxes in Presque Isle are very high. The best way to reduce taxes is to reduce city spending. In August, I decided to run for the Presque Isle City Council. After gathering 100 nominating signatures, I was notified by our City Clerk that my name will be on the November ballot for one of the Council seats. I was born in Presque Isle and raised on a small fourth-generation potato and dairy farm on the north bank of the Aroostook River. I graduated from Presque Isle High School in 1968, graduated with high distinction from the University of Maine in Orono, and received a master of science degree in applied economics from Cornell University. My career in agricultural business management education spanned three states and 30 years.
Following my retirement back to The County, I’ve served a four-year term on the Presque Isle Planning Board and participated as a student and speaker in the SAGE (Seniors Achieving Greater Education) program at UMPI. I’m a volunteer life member of both the Presque Isle Historical Society and the Friends of the Aroostook National Wildlife Refuge in Limestone. I’m an avid reader and sometimes writer.
If elected, I would strive to do my part to make Presque Isle as friendly as possible to seniors, youth, small businesses, and taxpayers. Thank you for your consideration.
