Fire Prevention Week

Oct. 6th ~ 12th

Scott Mitchell Johnson talked to students at Zippel Elementary School

“We already have Smokey Bear and Sparky the Fire Dog as mascots for fire safety.

If you could create a new fire mascot, what would it be and why?”

Breya MacFarline

“It would be a bull and it would probably dress in a red shirt and have a fire hat on.
It would be strong and be able to carry people out of a house that was on fire.
He’d help put out the fire, too.”

“The mascot would be a bobcat, but he’d look like a Tabby cat with gray stripes
— like my cat — and he’d be wearing a fireman’s dress uniform.
The mascot would go around to schools like Sparky does.
His name would be Missile because  he would be fast because he’s a bobcat.”

“I think it would be a very large jack rabbit because they live in the forest like Smokey Bear.
I don’t really know what its name would be, but he’d be white with black spots and floppy ears.
I think that would be really cool to have for a mascot because a lot of people like bunnies.”

Trevor Casey
Age: 9
Fourth grade

“I’d pick a dog because I have a Black Lab/Golden Retriever mix named Raven.
Her ears are very fluffy and black.
I think I’d name the fire mascot after my dog because my dog is very nice and cute …
even though she can get a little spooked at things.”

Jenna Ouellette
Age: 10
Fifth grade

“A German Shepherd because they’re a kind of rescue dog.
When there’s a fire, they could sniff the scent of people inside a house.
I don’t know what his name would be, but he’d wear fire clothes like Sparky does.”

Tyler Cormier
Age: 10
Fifth grade

“It would be a lion because a lion’s fur is a fiery color and I think that would be cool for a mascot.
He’d be carrying a fire hose and wearing a helmet that said
‘Fire Protection.’ His name would be Fire.”
