PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The Presque Isle Fire Department will be hosting an open house on Saturday, Oct. 12, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. “We’ll offer demonstrations throughout the day, including fire safety trailer demonstrations done every hour,” said Deputy Chief Adam Rider.
Children attending the event will be able to play games in the fire bay area. Lunch — consisting of hotdogs, chips and soda — will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
“We’ll be giving building tours. Participants can meet the Presque Isle Police Department’s K-9s, Beaufort and Dozer, and their trainers, Officers Kevin Schumacher and Kevin Reed,” Rider said.
Members of the Fire Marshall’s Office with the arson detection division will be doing K-9 demonstrations every hour. FMO officials will also be working with families using their hazard house throughout the day.
“The Maine Forest Service will have their helicopter on display in back of the fire station,” noted Rider.
Child safety seat checks will be performed throughout the event by TAMC and PIFD volunteers. There will also be fire equipment displays for participants to check out.
“Freddy the Fire Truck will be making his rounds throughout the day as well,” said Rider, “as will Sprinkler the Clown.”
Exhibitors will include: Maine Fire Marshall’s Office, Region 5 EMS, Maine Forest Service, TAMC, Central Aroostook Humane Society and Maine Mutual Group Insurance Company.
“We’ll also have special guests Smokey the Bear and Sparky the Fire Dog for children to meet,” said Rider.
Raffles and door-prize drawings will be held throughout the day.
