These students are the first group of participants in a LEGO Robotics group in Easton. Paula Giles, math teacher at Easton Jr/ Sr. High school, received a Perloff grant to expose her students to a STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) activity. Members included in front from left: Carson Flewelling, Hunter Dudley and Autumn Gray. Second row: Collin Sotomayor and Delia Bonner. Third row: Noah Kinney, Ryan West, Isabelle Morin and Delaney Leach.
Their visitors were anxious to learn about life at Easton High School and Aroostook County! The goal of this trip was to explore the differences/similarities of two very different communities within the confines of the state of Maine. CBHS students loved the wide-open spaces and fresh air. They were able to go on Gator rides through the woods and fields; none of them had ever been on a UTV! The group visited the Canadian border; many of them had never been to another country! They also toured Gentile Hall at the University of Maine at Presque Isle, and some showed interest in applying to UMPI. The group even experienced an Amish barn raising at Jacob Gingerich’s farm, and they were amazed at the process. Other new experiences while the group was here included visiting the Flewelling family’s potato farm and enjoying an “authentic” County meal complete with baked potatoes, fiddleheads, ploys moose meat chili, broccoli (from Ayer Farms), maple syrup (from Dwight Flewelling), backed beans, homemade rolls and biscuits.

Back Seat riders from left are: Max Semba, Colleen Coffey and Caity Conley. In front are Samantha Dunnigan, Eliza D’Anieri and driver Ian Sotomayor, of Easton.
In the spring students from Easton High School will be traveling to Portland to experience a day in the life of a Casco Bay student.
