UMPI golfer gains honor
Senior Mike Balmer of New Smyrna Beach, Fla. registered three top-five finishes for the University of Maine at Presque Isle in golf action Sept. 6-8, including winning the EMCC Invitational individual championship on Sept. 7.
For his outstanding play, the USCAA awarded Balmer the national Golfer of the Week for the period ending Sept. 8.
Balmer led the UMPI foursome to a team championship at the EMCC Invitational, shooting a one-under-par 71. “Mike just takes the game one shot at a time. He has the ability to block out the previous hole played and focus on the hole he is about to play,” said UMPI coach Dan Hotham.
