Middle school girls blank PI
The Caribou Middle School girls’ soccer team picked up a 5-0 home win Friday over Presque Isle White to improve its record to 6-1.
Searra Herbert put the Lady Vikes on the scoreboard with a first-half goal, her fourth of the season. Gabrielle Marquis scored her sixth goal of the season in the second half and Hope Shea netted a hat trick, including her 10th goal of the 2013 campaign.
The Lady Vikes also played a stellar game defensively, as keeper Jaelynn Doody recorded her fourth shutout. The unit, led by center backs Danielle Hanson and Camryn Langille and outside backs Meagan Dube and Sydney Thompson, continued its dominance by not allowing the opponents to take a single shot on goal.
This defense corps has allowed only 18 shots on goal thus far this season — none in the last 2-1/2 games — along with only four goals.
CMS boys drop pair
The Caribou Middle School boys’ soccer team lost twice in recent play, 1-0 to Fort Fairfield Sept. 7 and 3-1 to Presque Isle White Friday.
Isaac Cyr scored the game’s lone goal three minutes in the Tigers’ win. The Vikes played well defensively behind Austin Findlen, Spencer McDuffie, Bailey Griffeth, Nick Allen and Alex Ezzy.
In the most recent match, PI scored an early goal and added two more in the second half to prevail. The Wildcats’ size proved to be too much for Caribou to overcome. Parker Deprey scored a second-half goal off a Noah Frost assist. Also playing well for the Vikes were Gabe Rand, Hayden Hunter and Brandon Manter, while Nic Sleeper was outstanding on defense.
