Jerry York managed expertly a rain-soaked HCGC golf course on Saturday, then duplicated his effort on Sunday and walked away with this year’s Men’s Club Championship. Jerry shot a one-under-par 71 both days. Bob Gray, who finished as runner up, tried to catch Jerry on the front nine Sunday, but to no avail.

In the Ladies Championship, Misty Marino found herself in the Winners Circle, holding off runnerup Linda Holmes and winning the Ladies Club Championship by just one stroke.
The Junior Division Championship was another hotly contested affair, as Ben Tuttle, Ryan Dee and Cameron Clark all finished day one tied at 81. But Ryan Dee shot a 37 on the back nine Sunday for a total of 79 to claim the Junior Championship over runnerup Cameron Clark.
Other Winners in the two-day event were: “B” Division Ladies, Pam Mailman; “B” Division Men, Dave Socoby;  “C” Division Men, Vaughn Putnam and “B” Juniors Matthew “Boo” Tuttle.
In the Men’s Twilite League, the team of Marty Bouchard and Mike Fogarty played inspired golf during the playoff season and edged the team of Jerry York and Bob Gray for the 2013 Twilite Championship. In earlier action, the York/Gray team had beaten the team of Kevin Nickerson and Darryl LaPierre in the semifinal round, while the Bouchard/Fogarty team advanced to the championship round by nipping the Don Collins/Todd Willard team in the second semifinal match. Congratulations to all playoff teams, and thank you to all 32 teams for a tremendous, fun-filled season. We look forward to an even better league season  next year.
The Ladies Twilite League also had a successful year and the team of Brittany Benn and Pam Mailman won the League’s Championship by scoring 95 points accumulated over the 15 matches played throughout the season. The Martha Fasulo/Harriet Gray team finished runnerups, while the Jen Carr/Beth Hunt team and the Lori Holmes/ Cheryl Peabody team finished third and fourth, respectively.

On Sunday, Sept. 22 the Houlton High School Project Graduation Committee is sponsoring the annual Cross Country Par Three Tournament. This four-person team scramble event will be played at 3 p.m. (shotgun start) and fills up fast so sign up now in the clubhouse, as it is limited to the first 16 teams.
A special thanks goes out to the grounds crew for their tremendous effort this year in making our golf course as wonderful as it is. This was not the easiest of summers, with the days and days of rain. But, Bob Gray and his crew of Ray Barton, Joe McLaughlin, along with Brian and Brent Hammond worked very hard to make sure we golfers had a great experience on a manicured course.
