Cornerstone golf tourney scheduled at PICC Saturday

    The seventh annual Cornerstone Christian Academy Golf Tournament will be held Saturday, Sept. 14 at Presque Isle Country Club.

    Registration is at 7:30 a.m. and the shotgun start is at 8:30 a.m. The event is a three-person best-ball scramble and the entry fee is $120 for a team. Individuals may sign up for $40 and placed on a team.
    Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three teams for both gross and net. Longest drive and closest to pin winners will earn certificates to the PICC pro shop. Hole-in-one prizes include $15,000 cash, a set of golf clubs and a flat screen television. There is also a putting contest with a chance to win $5,000 cash.

Officiating classes for basketball to begin
    IAABO Board 150, representing Aroostook County, will offer classes for prospective basketball officials beginning Sept. 30 at Presque Isle High School.
    The meeting time for the Monday classes is 7-9 p.m. and the cost is $40. For more information, contact Harry Orser at 425-4451.

UMPI hosts 5K race as part of Homecoming

    The University of Maine at Presque Isle will host the Alumni and All-Comers 5K Cross Country Race on Sunday, Sept. 15 at 10 a.m.  Participants are encouraged to test their speed and skill to see if they can still dash. The race is open to anyone, but minors will need a signature from a parent or guardian.
    Registration takes place at the Park Family Field on the UMPI campus beginning at 8:30 a.m. at the start line. There is no entry fee, but donations to the Owl cross country and track and field programs will be accepted.
