    PRESQUE ISLE — Junkyard permits topped City Council’s recent list of renewals. Councilors approved the following during there regular September meeting, held Wednesday, Sept. 4, due to Monday being Labor Day:

• An automobile graveyard and junkyard permit for Geary S. Bonville, d/b/a G.S. Bonville & Son, 228 Chapman Rd., with the condition that a representative of the Presque Isle Police Department be allowed to inspect the premises at any time. Permit expires Oct. 1, 2014. Six of the seven councilors voted in favor of the permit, with Councilor Dick Engels abstaining;
• An automobile graveyard and junkyard permit for Fred Bonville Jr., d/b/a Fred’s Auto Salvage, 204 Chapman Rd., with the condition that a representative of the Presque Isle Police Department be allowed to inspect the premises at any time, with councilors voting unanimously in favor of the permit;
• An automobile graveyard and junkyard permit for Cowett’s Used Auto Parts, d/b/a C.A.R. Parts, 75 Davis St. and 250 Fort Rd., with the condition that a representative of the Presque Isle Police Department be allowed to inspect the premises at any time. Councilors unanimously approved the permit; and
• Councilors also unanimously approved an Automobile Recycling Business permit for Tim Cowett, 75 Davis St.
    In other recent action, councilors:
• Set the second public hearing to approve amendments to Chapter 48 — General Assistance Ordinance, for their next regularly-scheduled meeting, slated for Monday, Oct. 7;
• Approved a malt, spirituous and vinous liquor license for James and Hope Estey, d/b/a Pat’s Pizza, 9 North St., by unanimous vote;
• Approved a malt, spirituous and vinous liquor license for The Crow’s Nest Restaurant and Event Center, LLC, d/b/a The Crow’s Nest, 150 Maysville St., with six councilors in approval, while Councilor Dick Engels abstained from the vote;
• Approved a special permit for music, dancing and entertainment for The Crow’s Nest Restaurant and Event Center, LLC, d/b/a The Crow’s Nest, 150 Maysville St., with six councilors in approval, while Councilor Dick Engels abstained from the vote;
• Approved a malt, spirituous and vinous liquor license for BLD Hospitality, d/b/a Hampton Inn, 786 Main St., by unanimous decision;
• Approved a special permit for music, dancing and entertainment for BLD Hospitality, d/b/a Hampton Inn, 786 Main St., by unanimous decision;
• Approved multiple consent agenda items, including the resignations of: Karen Petrin, Planning Board; Hank King, Zoning Board; and Barbara DeVaney and Mike Chasse, from the Rec & Parks Board;
• Authorized the sidebar agreement to the city manager’s contract regarding the 2013 employee adjustments and to further authorize the city manager to execute the same changes to the deputy city manager’s contract. By doing so, both the city manager and deputy city manager would see their pay affected the same as other city employees with regard to furlough days and other recommended cuts to compensation and insurance;
• Appointed Elizabeth Paterson to the Rec & Parks Advisory Board to fill the unexpired term of Michael Chasse, term to expire Dec. 31, 2016;
• Announced Council listening tours — specific dates, times and places councilors have agreed to meet the public to discuss topics of concern/interest: Monday, Sept. 9 at the Irish Setter Pub on Main Street, beginning at 5:30 p.m.; Monday, Sept. 16, at Bonanza on Main Street, beginning at 5:30 p.m.; and Saturday, Sept. 28, beginning at 7:30 a.m. at Star City Coffee on Main Street;
• Failed to obtain a majority in support of sending a state surplus letter to state representatives expressing concern over continued cuts to revenue sharing and the impact it has had on the city’s budget, with several councilors agreeing that doing so would be pointless; and
• Approved the 2014 budget calendar as presented, with all meetings to be held in Council Chambers at City Hall beginning at 6 p.m. on the following: Oct. 7, 21 and 28; Nov. 4, 13, 18 and 25; and Dec. 2, 4 and 9, with Dec. 31 being the final date allowed by the charter for budget adoption.
