Cornerstone golf tourney

    The seventh annual Cornerstone Christian Academy Golf Tournament will be held Saturday, Sept. 14 at Presque Isle Country Club.
    Registration is at 7:30 a.m. and the shotgun start is at 8:30 a.m. The event is a three-person best-ball scramble and the entry fee is $120 for a team. Individuals may sign up for $40 and placed on a team.

    Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three teams for both gross and net. Longest drive and closest to pin winners will earn certificates to the PICC pro shop. Hole-in-one prizes include $15,000 cash, a set of golf clubs and a flat screen television. There is also a putting contest with a chance to win $5,000 cash.

Caribou picks up 2 shutout victories

    The Caribou Middle School boys’ soccer team did not allow a single goal in picking up a pair of wins last week.
    Noah Frost was the goalie for the Vikes, who defeated Fort Fairfield on Aug. 26, 2-0, and then downed Madawaska Thursday, 1-0.
    Bailey Griffeth, Nic Sleeper, Nick Allen and Alex Ezzy were the top defenders, while Austin Findlen, Brandon Manter, Spencer McDuffie, Cullin Caverhill, Brandon Jalbert, Hayden Hunter and Gabe Rand had strong all-around efforts.
    Camden Huck and Benoit Levesque scored in the win over the Tigers, while Liam McMillan earned an assist. Griffeth had the lone tally against the Owls, with Alex Bouchard and Manter assisting on the scoring play.

Varsity golf results

    The Caribou golf team had a strong regular season debut Friday, compiling 180 strokes to defeat visiting Fort Kent by 32.
    The medalist was Dayne Savage, who shot a 41. Other top scores for the Vikes were turned in by Donovan Savage (44), Tyler Dombroski (45), Katie Pelletier (50) and Connor Thibeault (50).
    The Fort Fairfield Tigers played a pair of home matches, beating Ashland last Wednesday, 9-2 in match play, while downing Hodgdon, 7-4, on Thursday.
    Noah Bernard and Robbie Watson shared medalist honors against the Hornets as both carded 36s. Jon Bernard had a 47, Vince Campbell a 53 and Shyla Bouchard a 64.
    For Ashland, Cody Blair came in with a 55 and Gabby Cyr a 62.
    Watson’s 38 led the way against the Hawks. Noah Bernard had a 40, Jon Bernard a 50, Campbell a 53 and Jordann Coiley a 59 for FF.

Limestone rec travel soccer

    The Limestone Recreation Department’s travel soccer schedule for grades 5-6 has been announced.
    The first practice is set for Sept. 10. Practices will continue Tuesdays and Thursdays through Oct. 10.
    Round robin tournaments take place Saturdays and are scheduled for Sept. 21 at Ashland, Sept. 28 at Caribou and Oct. 5 at Madawaska, with the County tourney to be held in Presque Isle Oct. 12.

Eagle runners race in Fort Kent meet

    A pair of Limestone-MSSM cross country team members took part in last Wednesday’s Fort Kent Invitational.
    William Popov placed fifth out of nine runners in the boys’ race with a time of 23 minutes and 8 seconds, while Eva Farkas was fourth out of seven in the girls’ race in 27:43.
    Greater Houlton Christian Academy and the host Warriors were other schools participating in the event, held on a 3.1-mile course.

UMPI hosting 5K race

    The University of Maine at Presque Isle will host the Alumni and All-Comers 5K Cross Country Race on Sunday, Sept. 15 at 10 a.m. 
    Registration takes place at the Park Family Field on the UMPI campus beginning at 8:30 a.m. at the start line. There is no entry fee, but donations to the Owl cross country and track and field programs will be accepted.
