Businesses join Friends of Bigrock

MARS HILL — The fund-raising efforts to keep Bigrock Mountain open continue to gain momentum as two businesses have stepped forward with significant pledges and the desire to assist with the fundraising.

“On Aug. 20, Darrell McCrum of County Super Spuds and Andy Brennan of Brennan Farms Limited informed us that they were pledging $10,000 each to help keep Bigrock open,” said Bill Getman, general manager of Bigrock Mountain. “Not only have they come forward with this great news, but they are also committed in helping us reach our stated goal of $150,000.”
“Letting Bigrock Mountain close was not an option for us,” said McCrum. “It means so much to the area, and all the memories of skiing there made it difficult not to get involved.”
Getman said to date the Friends of Bigrock website has raised almost $20,000.
“With Darrell and Andy’s announcement, and the other pledges that have been secured, Bigrock has raised almost $80,000,” he said. “Each day more good news comes to us and we are confident that our goal will be met and we will be open for business this winter.”
