Mapleton Daze Committee to bring back

community birthday calendar

MAPLETON NEWS

by Jennifer Buzza

The newly formed Mapleton Daze Committee had its first meeting Thursday, Aug. 8 at the Lions Hall. Those in attendance were Nola Farley, president; Shelby Stormann, vice president; Dennis Hoffses, treasurer/property manager; Lyn Frederick, secretary; Deana Easler, parade chair; and committee members Adam Nicak and Todd Stephenson. Absent were Jacob Graham, activities chair; and Jim Burrill, committee member.

Plans to bring back the old tradition of the birthday calendar were put into motion. Committee members have begun making calls to those who have ordered in the past. For anyone who had not been listed on the calendar in the past but would like to have their family members included on the upcoming 2014 calendar, they may contact Lyn at 762-6177 between now and Sept. 6. Once the committee has the calendar project under way, members will begin looking at bringing back the Mapleton Daze supper and auction with a projected November timeline.

Crown of Maine Balloon Fest

The Mapleton Lions Club will be cooking its famous sausage sandwiches at the Crown of Maine Balloon Fest Friday and Saturday, Aug. 23 and 24. As the host sponsor of the Balloon Fest, the Mapleton Lions Club invites everyone to come and view the balloon launches. The evening launches will be at 6 p.m., weather permitting. The Lions will be serving their sandwiches and french fries from 4-8 p.m. The balloon launch viewing is free to the public. Shortly after dusk, the balloons will return for the nightly balloon glow. There will also be crafters and business sales occurring in the commercial building. There will be a free concert at the fairgrounds, as well.
The Balloon Fest will celebrate its 10th anniversary this year. This year is the third year for the Mapleton Lions Club to be the host sponsor for the event. So everyone come and make an evening of the Balloon Fest. Come have dinner with the Lions Club, see the balloon launch and enjoy the after dark activities.
