Houlton Rotary
HOULTON — Excitement is in the air! Or maybe that is just the near fall chill? No, it is excitement! Or at least it is for your local Rotarians who are getting closer to our favorite time of year.
The annual Houlton Rotary Auction is fast approaching. Be on the look out for your local Rotarian to stop in or give you a call to donate an item for one of Houlton’s biggest/exciting events of the year. The Houlton Rotary Club would like to say “thank you” in advance. We truly do appreciate all the items that make the auction possible and those that bid on them too.
If you are not aware of what the auction is, let me tell you. The Houlton Rotary Club has a Radio/TV auction for three days right before Thanksgiving. We have many items from gift certificates, items from most of the local retail stores (we have great stores here in Houlton), handmade crafts and I can not forget the food — pies, rolls, salsa, pickles and lots more. So if you do not want to cook on Thanksgiving day you can just buy them here.
There are way too many items to list and it just keeps getting bigger and we are anticipating another terrific year. You may say why would you think that in today’s economy, well it is because of you! We live in an amazing area where everyone does their part and then some. You may also be saying well this is an auction what does that have to do with people doing their part? We have an extreme amount of volunteers – some not even Rotarian’s helping out along with all the donations and of course the buyers. So what does it do for the community? Well, we are a regular supporter of the Salvation Army, Cary Library, Dollars for Scholars, Health Services Foundation, we also accept requests annually for proposals to assist (which we are still accepting) so each year we give money to help your community and community members like the Houlton Recreation Playground equipment upgrade, the Houlton Amphitheatre, Southern Aroostook Ag. Museum, and the list goes on. The auction takes place at Watson Hall and is open to everyone to come and enjoy the fun, and it is fun! We also can be heard on our wonderful local radio station WHOU, or seen online at houltonrotary.org, or on our wonderful local Cable channel. You will see more to come, so be on the look out. And if you would like to donate an item or be a part of this great event, give this year’s auction chairperson, Amy Hocking a call 207-551-6081, or you can email her at AHocking @NorthCountryAssociates.com.
