Fresh Trails Adventures will be leading a free randonnee bike ride as a preview to its 2014 Tour de L’Acadie event beind held during next year’s World Acadian Congress.
The randonnee ride is not a race, but a group ride popular in Europe with the goal to enjoy the scenery, camaraderie and culture along the way.
Riders will have their choice of a 20-, 40-, or 80-mile loop, with all distances featuring bicycling through farmland, maple tree stands and undulating hills with some of the most picturesque scenery in the region.
“The spirit of your cycling companions help you pedal up the climbs while feeling a sense of peace and serenity,” said Mark Rossignol of Fresh Trails Adventures.
There will be two departure points for riders. The first will be in Fort Kent at the UMFK athletic parking lot at 8 a.m. and the second in Baker Lake, New Brunswick at the St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church at 8:45 a.m. Eastern Standard Time. Cyclists can register at each location 30 minutes prior to the start of the ride.
The Tour de L’Acadie ride is being conducted by Fresh Trails Adventures, a cycling and active adventure tour company based in Caribou. In the spirit of traditional randonnees, the event will be held rain or shine.
The ride will be guided and supported with a support vehicle, and registered cyclists will receive a Tour de L’Acadie T-shirt, a Fresh Trails Adventures pint glass and water bottle, Honey-Stinger all-natural nutritional products and a Rapha Musette bag. A small bag lunch will also be provided. Cyclists should bring any additional food and their passport (if beginning their ride in Fort Kent).
