Danforth Summerfest is scary good time

    DANFORTH, Maine — The annual Summerfest celebration got off to a soggy start Friday as heavy rain pounded northern Washington and southern Aroostook counties.

“We had many events and other activities throughout the three-day event,” said Summerfest organizer April Doane. “We held a Halloween dance for the kids Friday night with some games for the children including mummy wrap, donut eating contest and a Halloween costume contest, with the winners being Mariyah and Joshuah Castigliego and Nathan Frye.”
On Friday night the pageant was held with 10-plus contestants. The winners for the pageant were: Wee-One winner Lindsay Shay, Wee-One boys runner-up Cobra Allen Osnoe, Wee-One winner Joshuah Castigliego, Tiny Tot girl runner-up Tyra Millington, Tiny-Tot winner Mariyah Castigliego, Tiny-Tot boys runner-up Nathan Frye, Tiny-Tot boys winner was Gauge Osnoe, Little Ms. Summerfest runner-up Alexis Austin, Little Ms. Summerfest winner Ericka Russell and Little Mr. Summerfest Tyler Frye.
On Saturday, the day started with children’s games with prizes given out. The first event was the candy corn catch with the winners being Jayden Williams and Victoria Gilman; Jell-O slurping winners were Kianna Cassie, Emili Russell and Natalie Golding.
Pie-eating contest winners were Adria Doane, Stephen Terry, Nikki Simon, Tyler Frye and Lendin Stoddard. The overall winner for chugging almost five cans of soda was Candice Mailman.
Winners of the mummy-wrapping contest were April Crone and Judy Crone; limbo contest winner was Mallory Gilman; Halloween costume contest winners were Veronica Crone, Philip Farley and Emili Russell.
Obstacle course race winners were Zack Mailman, Benji Gilman and Peter Apgar; and the Minute-To-Win-It contest winner was Philip Farley.
A Trunk-or-Treat was held with residents encouraged to decorate their vehicles. First place went to Maggie Farley, followed by Holly Dicker and Carrie Oliver.
“We ended Saturday evening with a spectacular firework display and a family street dance,” Doane said.
On Sunday, a small children’s parade was held with four contestants, third place was Bently Dicker; second place was Larry Dean Shay and first place went to Mariyah and Joshuah Castigliego.
