Rec baseball continues in PI
Minor League
In another week of baseball, NorState rolled by CFCU, 7-2. Holden Zuras, Mason Fletcher, Jacob Smith and Asher Tuttle notched in singles for NorState to seal the victory. The County’s Noah Roy and Matthew Hedrich each had a hit in the contest.
NorState and Katahdin went head-to-head with Norstate recording a shutout victory. Katahdin did have three players reach base in Austin Thibeault, Ben Graham and Tyler Turner. Quinn DeMerchant had two hits while Holden Zuras scored a run. Jacob Smith pitched the shutout as Katahdin Trust was handed its first loss.
Major League
In Major League play, Rotary beat Kiwanis in a tight one, 2-1. Jaren Winger earned the win on the mound and was relieved by Cole Paterson and Riley Roderick. Chance Bragan was saddled with the loss while Erick Tompkins came in the game to relieve Bragan. Torey Levesque had a double and an RBI. Isaac Wipperman had the only other hit for Rotary. Jake Stevens tripled for Kiwanis and Garrett Morneault scored the only run. Jaden MacDonald and Ricky Goupille were each thrown out at home for the aggressive Kiwanis squad.
Another great game was played with the Elks claiming a 4-3 triumph. Winger and Thomas Patenaude pitched in a losing effort while Jonah Hudson, Seth Roy and Andrew Hewitt pitched for the Elks. Zach Fletcher, Roy, Hudson and Mason Young collected hits for the Elks, with Winger, Patenaude and Wipperman all hitting safely for Rotary. Alex Sweetser had an RBI for Rotary and Hewitt had the game-winning RBI for the Elks.
In the final game of the week, Colby Buckley was on the mound for Kiwanis. On the other side of the field, the Elks’ Hudson did the pitching in the 7-6 win. Buckley finished 2 for 2 with a home run and three RBI. For the Elks, Young chipped in two singles with Carter Rice knocking in the game-winning run.
The start of the next week saw another great game played as Kiwanis nipped the Elks. A late rally from Kiwanis proved to be detrimental to the Elks. Bragan and Goupille shared the mound in the win, totaling 10 strikeouts. Hudson, Connor DeMerchant and Hewitt all pitched in the losing effort for the Elks. Hudson, Roy, Fletcher and Hewitt all had extra base hits for the Elks, while Will Bridges and Young chipped in with singles. Bragan had a game-tying triple in the last inning, while Goupille and Morneault both had singles. Morneault’s hit proved to be the game-winning hit.
Pony League
In game one of a doubleheader between Washburn and Cushman’s, Nick Bartlett took the mound for Cushman’s and struck out six batters through four innings of work but gave up nine runs. Bartlett also led the offense with two singles, but Cushman’s couldn’t gain momentum and lost 9-2.
Game two was a different story for Cushman’s. Sam Gray started things off with a double and added another in the fourth. Bartlett hit his first homer of the season in the first to get out to a good lead. RJ Gross went 3 for 3 with a triple with Griffin Guerrette and Gavin Kelley both adding singles. Gray had it going on the mound giving up four hits through six innings with 11 strikeouts. Cushman’s split the twinbill with Cushman’s taking the second game, 6-2.
In more action, RBD topped Ashland, 9-1. RBD’s Kyle Rider had three hits, including a triple. Alexis Quevedo added a triple. Defensively, Jack Beaulieu, Adam Paterson and Max Bartley all played tough. Khasen Lowe gave up one run on the hill and recorded eight strikeouts.
