Charity event draws large field

    The 25th annual Charity Challenge golf tournament had the largest number of teams in the history of the event. Thirty teams played at Limestone Country Club on July 20 and 46 took part in the event at Long Lake Country Club on July 21.
    Funds raised from the event benefit Special Olympics of Aroostook County.

    The Charity Challenge has a unique format, with four nine-hole tournaments played over two days. Prizes are handed out after each round. The July 20 morning tournament was won by Roland Perry, Adam Metzler, Adam Folsom and Peter Allen of Mars Hill, who came in with a 4-under 32. The net winners  were Tom Albert, Terry Cantafio, Alan Oneal and Wayne Whetsell of Limestone.
    The July 20 afternoon winners were Al and Margaret Hebert, Roger Beaulier and Mitch Dube of Long Lake Country Club, who came in with a 5-under 31. The net winners were Larry Huckins, Craig O’Neal, Peter Bradley and Justin Quinones of Limestone.
    On July 21, golfers converged on Long Lake Country Club in record numbers. The team of Perry, Metzler, Folsom, and Allen picked up their second win of the weekend ending with a 6-under 29. The net winners were Conrad Legasse of Madawaska, Kelley Fitzpatrick of Houlton and Jon Gulliver and Rene Cloukey of Presque Isle.
    The afternoon winners were Tom Albert, Jamie Albert, Alan O’Neal and Wayne Whetsell of Limestone. They came in with a blistering 7-under 28. The net winners were Ethan Whetemore and Andrew Deschaine of Madawaska, Jenna Callari of Presque Isle and JR Gillis of Danforth.
