With just three weeks left in the regular season, the Men’s Twilite League is ramping up to be a hotly-contested one with seven of the 32 teams within three points of the top spot.
The Bob Gray/Jerry York team leads the Els Early League, followed by the Bob Askren/Vaughn Putnam team. In the Michelson Middle League, the Marty Bouchard/Mike Fogarty team is edging the Gabe Goodwin/Dan Peabody team by just a point. And, the P.J. Madore/Nick Skehan team leads the Love Late League by three points over the Flewelling brothers.
In the Ladies Twilite League, the team of Brittany Benn/Pam Mailman seems to be the team to beat. The Harriet Gray/Martha Fasulo team could catch them, as they are just five points back.
This Friday night, we will have the rescheduled Couples Night Scramble. Sign up and enjoy the playing the “All Birdies Count” scramble, followed by a spaghetti feed.
August is a big tournament month, beginning with The County Open Aug. 3 at VaJoWa and Sunday, Aug. 4 at Houlton Community Golf Course. The Houlton Golf Club will be closed to play starting 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3 and all day Sunday, Aug. 4, as we host The County Open banquet and tournament.
On Saturday, Aug. 17, at 10 a.m., the annual Rally For Cure of Breast Cancer “Pink” Tournament will be played. This year’s four-person scramble event will have a new and exciting format, so get your team together and sign up now. Members and non-members are welcome to play. Cost is $35 per person and includes two mulligans and a chance to win closest to the pin prizes. If you do not have a foursome, call the clubhouse and we can hook you up with other players. All monies will go to a great cause.
The annual Labor Day weekend Babe Caron Tournament is fast approaching and will be played on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 31 and Sept. 1. Sign up now for this popular event, as the field is limited to only 50 teams. Members, remember you must have at least 10 scores posted from Houlton Community Golf Club for your authorized handicap.
The annual club championship is reverting back to its original format and will be played this year as a two-day stroke play event on Sept. 14 and 15.
Finally, we have had three holes-in-ones this year. Congratulations Jen Wallace, who sunk her’s on the third hole. Tim Guy posted his first hole-in-one on No. 8 after more than 30 years of playing this course. About time Tim. And, this past weekend, Hermon Madore used a pitching wedge to ace No. 12. Congratulations to all three players.
