The “Miracle Mile: Makenna and Maggie’s Race for Research” was held July 6.
All proceeds from the race go to two worthwhile organizations working to find cures for childrens’ cancers — “Curesearch” and the “Diamond Blackfan Anemia Foundation.”
Kirk and Amy Ward were joined for the event by Lauren and Andy Rudnicki of Levant, with their daughter Maggie. The Wards met the Rudnicki family in Bangor when both families were getting treatment for their daughters at the same time.

The Rudnicki’s daughter was diagnosed with diamond blackfan anemia, a rare blood disorder in which the bone marrow fails to produce red blood cells. People with DBA are severely anemic and require constant blood transfusions.
