       The Maine Potato Blossom Festival in Fort Fairfield concluded Sunday night in grand style, with a big fireworks display over the Aroostook River.

    YOU CALL THIS A HORSE? — Hazel Belle Lundberg, 2, of Windham, and granddaughter of Rocking S Ranch owners Steve and Sarah Ulman, of Fort Fairfield, looks a bit dismayed at having to ride a rocking horse instead of the real thing in the Potato Blossom Parade held July 20.     ROCKING S RANCH, of Fort Fairfield, was well-represented in Saturday’s parade in Fort Fairfield, with Dave Tardy taking the lead holding the American flag. Carrying the Maine flag, at left, was Robert Cyr; and at right, holding the Canadian flag, was David McCray.

    TEAMSTERS LOCAL  340 provided the tractor-trailer truck to collect food for Catholic Charities again this year, as part of the Feed the County program. Pictured carrying the banner are Vicki Keaton and Dixie Shaw, director of Catholic Charities in Aroostook. Following with a donation bucket is Cuppy Johndro.

      Earning the right to represent the Maine potato industry during the next 12 months are Pre-Teen Miss Potato Blossom Festival pageant winners, from left: Samantha Boulier, daughter of Rachel and Gordie Boulier of Mapleton, second runner-up; Janelle Tweedie, daughter of Jennifer and Joshua Tweedie of Mars Hill, Pre-Teen Miss Maine Potato Queen 2013; and Taylor Hedrich, daughter of Jenn and Todd Hedrich of Presque Isle, first runner-up. Tweedie also received Miss Congeniality during the July 13 event.

LITTLE MISSES

      Taking top honors in the July 15 Little Miss Maine Potato Blossom Festival pageant were, from left: Amanda Poulin, daughter of Karen and David Poulin of Woodland, first runner-up; Renee Lapointe, daughter of Christine and Michael Lapointe of Van Buren, Little Miss Maine Potato Queen 2013; and Emma Crouse, daughter of Sarah and Ron Crouse of Fort Fairfield, second runner-up. Amalla Peterson, daughter of Andrea Peterson and Mike Stuart of New Sweden, was named Miss Congeniality by her peers.
