Minor and major league baseball teams begin summer rec play

The Presque Isle Recreation and Parks Department’s summer youth baseball program got under way recently, with a number of close games being played.
Summaries of several of the contests are as follows:

Minor League baseball
Katahdin Trust defeated CFCU, 5-1 as Ben Graham struck out 11 batters and Tyler Turner tripled to lead the offense. Jonah Roy singled in CFCU’s lone run and Cody Barnes made several good plays at first base.
Katahdin made it two wins in a row by topping Norstate, 6-0, Graham pitched a three-inning no-hitter and Austin Thibeault doubled and the rest of the offense was made possible by the wildness of Norstate pitchers.
CFCU stopped Norstate, 6-4, as Noah Roy, Ethan Shaw and LeRoy Gardiner did the pitching for the winners. CFCU scored four runs in the fourth inning and Roy had the only extra-base hit of the contest. Asher Tuttle went the distance on the mound for the Norstate squad.
Katahdin Trust downed Norstate, 7-6. Graham threw a one-hitter and scored three times, with Thibeault, Caleb Levesque, Cavin Cleaves and Ben Flannery also coming across for Katahdin Trust. Karsen Winger was the leading hitter. For Norstate, Quinn DeMerchant put the ball in play on several occasions and Mason Fletcher pitched a no-hitter through the first three innings.
Norstate claimed a 14-6 triumph over CFCU as DeMerchant went 6 for 6 and Fletcher and Holden Zuras smashed out five hits each. Jude Mosher added four hits for the winners. For CFCU, Shaw and Sam Guyan had three hits each
Graham knocked in Chase Langley for the winning run in Katahdin Trust’s 5-4 win over Norstate. Graham finished with three hits, while Guyan had two hits for Norstate.
Norstate edged CFCU, 8-7, as DeMerchant and Mosher led the way with three hits each. Jonah Roy hit safely four times and Ryllan Thibault contributed three for CFCU.
Major League baseball
The Elks picked up a 3-1 win over Rotary as Jonah Hudson threw three scoreless innings and had two singles to pace the offense. Connor DeMerchant made a great defensive play by throwing a runner out at the plate to save the game. Tom Patenaude doubled twice for Rotary. He and Jaren Winger did the pitching.
Rotary blanked the Elks, 1-0, in their second meeting, with Patenaude and Winger outdueling Hudson and DeMerchant in this one. Torey Levesque doubled and Winger and Riley Roderick had singles for Rotary and Will Bridges collected the lone Elks hit.
Rotary shut out Kiwanis, 3-0, as Winger tossed a no-hitter for three innings and garnered the pitching victory. Roderick, Winger, Cole Paterson and Noah Flynn all had hits for the winners, while Ricky Goupille and Nathan Willette led Kiwanis.
The Elks defeated Kiwanis, 6-1, behind Hudson’s pitching. DeMerchant managed to collect the lone hit for the Elks, but they were the beneficiaries of several walks allowed by Kiwanis pitchers. Jake Stevens doubled and Colby Buckley singled for Kiwanis.
Rotary’s Winger, Paterson and Roderick combined for the pitching win as they downed Kiwanis.
