The club is seeking donations of cash and/or items to be used toward supplying the goods needed for the annual pig roast. They need volunteers to lend their time to help serve the food, to sell tickets and to collect the cover charge at the dance. Though fundraising is always important to the club, this year it is particularly important. The club is in the midst of purchasing a new groomer and also rerouting the snowmobile trail system. All of this takes time and money! Thankfully the Portage Lakers club members donate their time to the club year-round. It’s not just a winter thing. These folks spend their personal time meeting to come up with fund-raising ideas, ways of making the trail system better to draw more tourists to our area who — in turn — support our local businesses in town and throughout The County; they up-keep and groom the trails, spend countless hours networking with other clubs from all over the country along with many behind-the-scenes activities we don’t know about. All of this, so all of us can enjoy our beautiful state. Let’s help support our local snowmobile club!
The club is also selling their Club 100 tickets with the winner being drawn at the pig roast. The club has 100 tickets to sell for $20 each. The first prize winner will receive a cash prize of $500 and five other winners will receive $100 each. With only 100 tickets being sold, it’s a great chance to win some cash for a small investment, all while supporting the club.
For more information, to make a donation and/or volunteer, contact the Portage Lakers Snowmobile Club President Jennifer Curran at 227-0045, via e-mail at portagelakers@roadrunner.com, visit them on the web at www.portagelakerssnowmobileclub.com or on Facebook.

THREE MEMBERS of the Scott Libby family of Ashland recently marched in the Ashland Fourth of July parade. This is the first time they marched together in uniform. Pictured are, from left: Airman 1st Class Andrew Libby (U.S. Air Force), stationed in Ramstein, Germany; Construction Mechanic 1st Class (Seabee Combat Warfare) Scott Libby (U.S. Navy Reserve) and Senior Airman Lynn Libby (Maine Air National Guard).

Libby family
military tradition
Three members of the Scott Libby family of Ashland proudly marched together — for the first time in uniform — during the Ashland Fourth of July parade. This touching family feat was possible due to the younger members returning home to Ashland reuniting the family all at one time. Daughter Lynn recently returned from Afghanistan, while son Andrew was home on leave from Ramstein, Germany. It was a proud and poignant moment of celebration for the family, as well as the community. Thank you Libby family for your service to our country and the community.
