LL stars take the field

    The Caribou Little League all-star games were played Saturday, with the National League winning the 9-10 year-old game, the American League claiming the 11-12 year-old game and the National League coming out on top in the coaches contest.

    Summaries of the games are as follows:
9/10 year-olds – National League 17, American League 8
    In the first game of all-star Saturday, the National League broke open a close game by scoring 15 combined runs in the third and fourth innings, and went on to post a 17-8 victory over the American League.
    The NL had a balanced attack at the plate, with eight players getting hits and all 12 players scoring at least one run. Ethan Holdsworth had two singles and three RBI, Sawyer Deprey had a triple and Zack Madore had a double to lead the way. Jake Berkoski, Caleb Espling, Dominick Crouch, Miles Collier and Cameron Ouellette all added singles.
    On the mound, Deprey, Ouellette, Holdsworth, Berkoski, Collier,and Crouch all pitched, with Berkoski earning the victory.
    For the AL, Riley Bouchard had the only extra base hit with a double, while Hayden Hunter, Devin White and P.J. Thornton had singles. Starting pitcher Cullen Caverhill went two innings, followed by White, Bouchard, Ryan Austin and Hunter.
11/12 year-olds – American League 22, National League 5
    The American League scored 12 runs in the top of the first inning to take command and cruised to a 22-5 victory over the National League.
    Camden Huck was the hitting star for the AL with a grand slam home run over the right field fence, two doubles and a single to drive in a total of seven runs. Brandon Manter had three hits, including a double, and Jacob Ouellette had a triple and a single with two RBI in the victory.
    Austin Findlen, Gabe Rand, Branden Masse and Logan Lusardi also chipped in with singles for the AL.
    On the mound, Huck went the first two innings to earn the victory, followed by Josh Quist, Noah Hixon, Findlen, Manter and Rand in relief.
    For the NL, Tristan Mancos had a triple, Wyatt Taggett hit a double and Tyler Wright, Parker Deprey, and Brennan Poitras each had singles. Mancos, Ghent Durepo, Poitras, Wright, Caleb Trombley and Sydney Thompson all pitched for the NL.
    Before the game, a home run derby was held and Huck earned the title of champion and Quist was the runner-up.
Coaches Game – National League 6, American League 4
    In the traditional coaches softball game to wrap up the day, pitchers Richard Ezzy of the National League and Rick Thibeault of the American League locked up in a tight battle, with the NL squeaking out a 6-4 victory.
    Arik Jepson keyed the effort for the NL with several defensive gems in the outfield and clutch hitting at the plate. For the AL, Steve Desmond muscled the only home run of the game over the left field fence.
    The regular season in the Caribou Little League is complete and the playoffs are under way.
    The final standings are as follows: National League: Shop & Save (11-3), S.W. Collins (10-4), Eagles (8-6), Bank of Maine (7-7), VFW (4-10) and Police (0-14). American League: Sleepers (13-1), Northstars (12-2), Key Bank (8-6), Knights of Columbus (2-12) and Tigers (2-12).
    The remaining playoff schedule is as follows: Wednesday, July 10: American League semifinals on the White Field in Caribou and the Stockholm Field; Friday, July 12:  AL and NL championships on the White and Rotary fields; Tuesday, July 16: World Series Game 1 on the White Field; Wednesday, July 17:  World Series Game 2 on the White Field; Friday, July 19: World Series Game 3 on the White Field in Caribou (if necessary). All games begin at 6 p.m.
