Stacyville Strawberry Festival begins Friday

NE-CLR-Strawberry-dc-pt-28    STACYVILLE — The 13th annual Stacyville Strawberry Festival will be held at the VFW Post in Stacyville from Friday, July 12 through Sunday, July 14.  The schedule of events is as follows:
Friday, July, 12

    All Day — Enter photos for contest. Photos must be 4×6, 5×7, or 8×10 in black and white or color. Photos may be registered at the VFW in Stacyville anytime on Friday, July 12 between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Photos will be judged by People’s Choice all weekend by secret ballot. Winners will be announced at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 14. Photos must be freestanding in a frame or on your own photo-display stand. Photographer’s name, address and age must appear on back of photos. Age categories are 16 and younger and 16-and-older. Amateurs only. Must pick up your own photos. The VFW will not be responsible for returning them to you. Adult categories include animals, people and humor, while the children’s category is fun in the sun. A first place prize of $10 will be given for each category for both kids and adults.

    9 a.m. to 4 p.m. — Yard sale, flea market, artists, vendors (free space, but must provide own table).
    3 p.m. — Kids Cupcake and Adult Cake Contests judging. The Kids Cupcake Contest is open to children 16-and-younger. At least twelve cupcakes must be registered at VFW no later than 2 p.m. on Friday, July 12. Any flavor. Will be judged on presentation. Cupcakes become property of VFW after judging. Judging will take place at 3 p.m. Prizes are 1st place $10; 2nd place Ribbon; 3rd place Ribbon. The adult contest is open to those 16-and-older and cakes must be registered at VFW no later than 2 p.m. Friday, July 12. Cakes may be any flavor and will be judged on taste and presentation by discriminating critics. Must be equivalent in volume to at least one full-size cake mix. Cakes become property of VFW following judging.  Prizes: 1st place $25; 2nd place Free Chicken BBQ meal on Sunday at 5 p.m.
    5 p.m. until gone — Roast Pork Supper. The cost is by donations.
    6 p.m. — Super Raffle Drawing.
    6 p.m. — Cribbage Tourney (adults only) $5 entry.
Saturday, July 13
    9 a.m. — Registration for Breast Cancer Walk at Old School Parking Lot in Stacyville. Walk begins at 9:30am. Call Carey for more info at 365-7719.
    9a.m.-4 p.m. — Yard sale, flea market, artists, vendors (free space, but must provide own table).
    10 a.m. — Cruise in Car Exhibition at Stacyville Town Office lot. Call Tom McAvoy for information at 365-4613.
    11 a.m.-3 p.m. — Hot Dog Bus opens.
    11 a.m.— Parade “any theme.” Enter a float, decorate bikes, anything goes. Line up at 10:45 a.m. at the old Stacyville Elementary School lot. Call 267-4016 for more information. After the parade, an auction by Jim Pratt will be held. Call 365-4832 or 365-4259 to donate items.
    5 p.m. until gone — Ham and bean supper with strawberry shortcake. The cost is by donations.
    6 p.m. — Raffle drawing.
Sunday, July 14
    8 a.m.-9 a.m.— Breakfast (sausage and pancakes). The cost is $5.
    9 a.m.-4 p.m. — Yard sale, flea market, artists, vendors (free space, but must provide own table).
    9 a.m. — Horseshoe tourney, $10 entry. Pick of the draw. Cash prizes.
    11 a.m.-3 p.m. Hot Dog Bus opens.
    10 a.m. — 4-wheeler ride with the Katahdin Valley Wheeler Club. Call David Robinson at 365-4307. Starts at VFW and returns to VFW between 3-5 p.m. Approximately 50 miles.
    Noon-3 p.m. — Live music.
    3:30 p.m. — Photo contest judging for kids and adults.
    4-5 p.m. — Live entertainment.
    5 p.m. until gone — Chicken barbecue. The cost is by donation.
    6 p.m. — Raffle drawing.
