Disoriented deer smashes art center window

PRESQUE ISLE — Vandals come in all shapes and sizes, but typically walk on two legs. But that wasn’t the case early Saturday morning when a deer broke into the Wintergreen Arts Center on State Street.

To dispel rumors of a break-in involving a human, the Presque Isle Police Department advised on Facebook Saturday morning that “the window at Wintergreen Arts Center was not broken this morning with any criminal intent or maliciousness. Unfortunately the window was broken by a deer that ran through it as it was running around in the downtown area.”
The deer ran through the plate-glass window on at the left front of the facility, sending glass shards throughout the interior of the facility and knocking over chairs.
PIPD officers and a game warden from the Maine Warden Service responded but were unable to save the deer, which had to be put down due to its extensive injuries.
