MCCREA, Dallas A., 84, FORT FAIRFIELD, at Presque Isle, June 8, 2013. A Celebration of his Life with military honors will be conducted 11 a.m. Wed., June 12, at the funeral home. Arrangements are in the care of Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, Fort Fairfield.

 FORT FAIRFIELD – Dallas A. McCrea, 84, husband of the late Janet S. McCrea, passed away June 8, 2013, at the Presque Isle Rehab & Nursing Center. He was born November 24, 1928, in Andover, New Brunswick, Canada, the son of Bruce and Ruby (Wark) McCrea. American Flag Color
    Dallas was a graduate of the Fort Fairfield High School, class of 1947, and was married to Janet Simpson on April 10, 1953.
    He served in the United States Army during the Korean War and was self-employed as a potato farmer for many years.
    Mr. McCrea had been an accomplished Assistant Ski Coach at Fort Fairfield High School for 40 years and trained several State Champion individuals and numerous State Championship teams. Dallas was also instrumental in the final decision to build the Maine Winter Sports Center, Nordic Heritage Sport Club in Presque Isle and Fort Fairfield, which continues to host the world’s top biathletes from more than 30 countries for world-class biathlon championships. Dallas was the first community person to meet with world-renowned trail designer John Morton and Brian Hamel (Chairman of the MWSC) to provide a hiking tour of the location and explain his long history of skiing on the site with his high school skiers.
    Dallas had been a resident of Personal Enrichment Center, Presque Isle Nursing Home for three years. Although farming and skiing were two of Dallas’ passions, his greatest enjoyment came from spending time with his family and close friends.
    In addition to his parents, Dallas was predeceased by his wife, Janet on October 10, 1995; and by three brothers, Harold, Raymond and Thomas McCrea. He is survived by three sons, John McCrea and his wife, Pat of Fort Fairfield, Andrew McCrea and his partner, Dave Near of Chicago, IL, Bruce McCrea of Huntington Beach, CA; one daughter, Mary Anne Ayoob and her husband, Dan of Fort Fairfield; two brothers, Philip McCrea and his wife, Gayle of Huntington Beach, CA, Ronald McCrea of Palm Springs, CA; one sister, Marjorie Boyer and her husband, the Rev. Jan Boyer of Wyoming, RI; four grandchildren, Kim McCrea of Fort Fairfield, Kiersten Charest of Buxton, Doug Ayoob of Dover-Foxcroft, Sadie Ayoob of Chicago, IL; two great-granddaughters, Adelyn Charest of Buxton; Dallas-Rae Dorsey of Fort Fairfield; numerous nieces and nephews.
    Friends called from 7 – 9 p.m., Tuesday, June 11, at the Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main St., Fort Fairfield. A Celebration of Life for Dallas with military honors will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday June 12, at the funeral home. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments will be held after the service at the VFW Paul Lockhart Post Number 6187, Presque Isle St., Fort Fairfield. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may contribute in memory of Dallas to the Ski Team, Fort Fairfield Middle High School, 28 High School Dr., Fort Fairfield, ME 04742, or to the Personal Enrichment Center’s Residents Fund of the Presque Isle Rehab & Nursing Center, 162 Academy St., Presque Isle, ME 04769, to be used for their activity program.
